The island is not connected to the mainland by a causeway and the only way to reach Langkawi is to fly or take a boat. Naturally, a land journey to Alor Setar, where the jetty is located, is possible but from here travellers will need to take a boat to reach the island. The jetty provides long and short-term patrolled car parking facilities which are reasonably safe.
