Castle of Sao Jorge is one of the oldest monuments in the Portuguese capital, parts of the fortifications of this castle date back to before the birth of Christ, while humans are shown to have occupied the area, on the tallest hill in the centre of the city, since 6 BC. This millennia-old monument has seen every twist and turn in the long history of Lisbon and has been partially destroyed, rebuilt and modified dozens of times.
