In 1415, Portugal took control of the Moroccan territory know as Ceuta and this marked the beginning of the next phase of the country’s history, a time when it focused on maritime development and overseas trading. The Azores Madeira and Brazil were colonised creating a variety of trade routes and bringing prosperity to the country.
