Krathong Floating (Loi Kratong) is observed nationwide and has been going on since the Sukothai period. People gather at the waterside to float (or ‘loi’) their ‘krathong’, a lotus-shaped vessel elaborately decorated with flowers and candles, in order to pay respect the Goddess of Water for giving them water to use each day. Hotels and resorts might organise this festival and let their guests float their krathongs in the swimming pool or even in the sea.
