In the Cat Ba area you can explore grottos, snorkel on reefs and observe primates and birds in the forests. You can also board a wide variety of cruises of different durations that explore the Halong Bay islands. The small town also has the only nightlife in the area, although subdued, as well as the nicest hotels. Pearl shopping here is good value.
